Entitled ’Whispers from the Deep’, this oceanic installation wondrously evokes underwater sea creatures and highlights a creative process associated with chaos and form, randomness and precision, unruly and controlled, spirit and matter, and natural vs man-made. A collection of 23 artworks, each mouth-blown and unique, conjures textures and forms of subacquatic eroded treasures taking us back to the rich history of Qatar which began more than 700 million years ago. Geological forces shaped its peninsula, submerging the land of Qatar underwater several times due to the water rising and land opening up, disappearing then reforming. It influenced its climate, environment and wildlife, which was once home to now-extinct sea creatures. Back in the days, seashells such as cowrie shells, oyster shells and pearls were found in the souq and used as currency as they were extremely valuable.

Since 2017, Tessa have been engaged in collaborative experiments with Venetian glassblowers on the island of Murano, aimed at innovating textures in glass through diverse techniques. She sourced various types of discarded metals from surrounding factories in the Veneto region and infused them in different states and temperature calibers within the glass. By using raw materials and testing their limits, the designs evolve within the production process aspiring her to embrace all surprises and accidents. The experiments yielded a diverse range of formations and textures; blending the two materials in intriguing ways, it enables light to permeate the trans- lucent metal-infused glass and creates captivating reflections with playful shadows, which stimulates a sense of curiosity and touch to the viewers.
